Problem Overview
The HoRRIzon project delivered a well-structured approach to support the Societal Readiness of R&I project. The approach resulted from the cross consideration of three perspectives:
(1) RRI tasks to be considered at all times
(2) the innovation chain though the 4 main stages of problem identification, data collection, evaluation and dissemination with
(3) a specific focus on a few issues relevant for the societal impact of R&I process (public engagement, open access, science education, gender, ethics, and governance).
To date, the operationalization of the approach consists of the identification and validation of a few guiding questions related to the different issues, at the different stages of R&I process for the different RRI tasks.

Innovation Details
TIES will go beyond the current operationalization of the SR approach as proposed by the New HoRRIzon project. Through the adoption of overarching theoretical umbrella the JET framework to assure the societal needs and imension are properly addressed and the implementation of a strong participatory action-research methodology TIES will elaborate on the guiding research questions identified by Bernstein et al with a twofold objective: to identify questions tailored to the specific R&I TIES case studies and and to identify the most suitable methods and tools for the questions to be answered.
As a result, several issues to support the Societal Readiness of Hydropower projects in line with procedural, distributional and recognition justice will be identified and validated tools for SR to be increased will be reported and properly documented. An additional relevant result will be the increase of the awareness on SR approaches and tools among promoters and implementers of hydropower projects, including the TIES consortium itself.
